extreme-cheapskates-shorts-binder-clip-belt.jpgHere's a new fashion trend we weren't aware of: the binder clip belt. Well, it's not quite a belt, but it's a novel way of keeping your pants from falling down, and it comes to us from Kate, the latest subject to be profiled on TLC's "Extreme Cheapskates."

In Zap2it's exclusive sneak peek at the Oct. 16 fall premiere, we meet Kate, a New York City resident who continues to wear shorts she purchased in 1999 -- which would be fine, except the elastic is so stretched out they won't stay up on their own. Enter the binder clip.

"These are too wide now," she explains. "I take this binder clip and clip it together and it fits fine. These shorts have lasted me 13 years going on, and hopefully more years."

Kate is also a fan of dumpster diving for discarded food, washing her clothes when she showers, shutting off the gas valve and signing up for free samples and mailing lists. She doesn't believe in paying for toiletries. "I'm a big fan of free samples. Maybe I'm an extreme sampler," she jokes.

"Extreme Cheapskates" returns Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 10 p.m. on TLC.
