Fall TV 2014: 'How I Met Your Dad' ordered to series at CBS (or not?)
The pickup is the Eye's first from among its crop of pilots this year (drama "Battle Creek" got a straight-to-series pickup). It comes just over a month after the "HIMYM" finale, which scored big ratings but disappointed many of the show's fans.
CBS, which typically keeps its series pickups close to the vest, says a series order isn't final yet. Multiple outlets have reported the pickup, but a CBS rep says the network hasn't made any series orders yet.
"How I Met Your Dad" focuses on Sally (Greta Gerwig) and her romantic travails before she meets her future husband. There's no overlap with "How I Met Your Mother" on screen, but the show will employ a similar time-bending style and narration by an older version of the lead character (voiced by Meg Ryan).
"HIMYM" creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas join Emily Spivey ("Up All Night") as creators of the new show; Gerwig will also serve as a producer and writer. The cast also includes Nicholas D'Agosto, Tiya Sircar, Andrew Santino and Drew Tarver.
CBS announces its full 2014-15 schedule on Wednesday (May 14).
