'Fifty Shades of Grey': Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer were 'never in the running'

Charlie Hunnam ultimately won the part of Christian Grey in the upcoming "Fifty Shades of Grey" adaptation, but before his casting was set in stone, fans had their own ideas of who should get the role. Fan-favorites included Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder, but it turns out they never had a chance -- at least, that's what Bret Easton Ellis claims.

"Talked to E.L. James at a party over the summer: her first choice for Christian was Rob Pattinson and Matt Bomer was never in the running," Ellis tweets. "E.L. James and I were at Rob Pattinson's house when she admitted that Rob was first choice for Christian. Ian Somerhalder never in running."

The Robert Pattinson news is no secret, especially since "Fifty Shades" started off as a "Twilight" fan fiction. But the Somerhalder and Bomer news is a bit of a bummer, especially since Somerhalder was totally game for the part.

Ellis also admitted who he thought should play Christian: the porn star James Deen, who also starred in his movie "The Canyons." "When E.L. James asked me who I thought should be Christian I said 'James Deen, of course' and then she shoved me," he writes. "We were both very wasted."

Are you satisfied with Hunnam as Christian?
