First Lady Michelle Obama welcomes U.S. Women's Soccer Team to White House

michelle-obama-us-womens-soccer-team.jpgAs part of her on-going "Let's Move!" initiative to combat childhood obesity, First Lady Michelle Obama invited the World Cup runner-up U.S. Women's Soccer Team to the White House Thursday (Oct. 6). The soccer players and Obama spoke to and played with children from Soccer Sisters United out of Philadelphia and Prince William Courage Soccer Club out of Woodbridge, VA.

There were nearly 50 kids on the south lawn of the White House participating in running, dribbling, kicking and other soccer drills with the professional soccer players.

The First Lady also said of the U.S. Women's Team efforts in the 2011 World Cup, "We are proud of their accomplishment this summer. They've made us so incredibly proud." But she added, "You don't have to become a superstar athlete to enjoy sports and to move."

The Obamas dog Bo also made an appearance. Fun times.
