"The Flash" is officially coming to The CW in the fall, which means it's time for one last piece of big casting news: John Wesley Shipp will play Barry Allen's father, Henry Allen.

Shipp -- who played the Barry Allen/Flash character in the 1990-1991 series of that name -- will recur as Henry, a man wrongfully imprisoned for the murder of his wife since Barry (Grant Gustin) was 11. He will be seen in both flashbacks and Central City's present day.

"Flash" executive producer Greg Berlanti had the following to say about the actor and character:

"Given his history with 'The Flash,' Andrew, Geoff and I could only think of one person we wanted to play Barry's father and that was John Wesley Shipp. He gives a fantastic and emotional performance in the pilot and we are looking forward to his presence in many more episodes. Also, personally, it was just wonderful to work with him again since my days at 'Dawson's Creek.' He's a great actor and a great guy."

In addition to "Dawson's Creek" and "The Flash," TV audiences know Shipp from roles on "Teen Wolf" and "One Life to Live."
