'FlashForward': Sonya Walger talks 'Battlestar's' James Callis
James Callis, known to "Battlestar Galactica" fans as Gaius Baltar, joins the ABC sci fi show as a "strange guy" who possibly helps or hinders Walger's character, Dr. Olivia Benford.
A quick refresher: Olivia, along with everybody else in the world, lost consciousness for 2 minutes 17 seconds, during which she had a "flashforward" vision of her future on April 29. Being happily married to FBI agent Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes), Olivia is understandably upset that her vision featured her having rather tender feelings for a man she's never met. Later, she runs into that man, Lloyd Simcoe (Jack Davenport), and gets reluctantly pulled into his life until he's seen getting taken away by force.
So how does Callis fit into Olivia's story?
Check out what Walger told Zap2it during visit to the "FlashForward" set on Thursday (March 11):
"[Olivia]'s roped into the FBI, she starts helping them with the investigation," Walger said. "Then she meets a strange guy who knows an awful lot about her future. There's this man who's had multiple flashforwards. So he becomes a big part of unlocking what's happened, both in global terms and in terms of Olivia."
Unfortunately, Walger was not at liberty to explain how or why this man has had multiple flashforwards.
Jessika Borsiczky, the show's excecutive producer, elaborated, "I don't want to give too much away about what he plays, but he has some information about the blackouts that no one else on the show has, and he gets really involved with Olivia and Lloyd."
So it appears that Lloyd won't go missing for long if he reunites with Olivia, which causes her some internal conflict.
"We last saw Olivia with Lloyd as he was being bundled into the back of an ambulance as he's being abducted," Walger explained. "It's kind of an interesting moment, because there's this realization for her of, 'Oh, I care about this person.'
"Mark starts really disappearing down the rabbit hole investigating the Mosaic ... so their marriage is not in a good way," she continued. "There's trouble and strife at home."
"FlashForward" returns to finish the second half of its freshman season with a two-hour special on Thursday, March 18 at 8 p.m. ET. A recap of the first half of the season will air after "Lost" two days before, on Tuesday, March 16 at 10 p.m. ET.
