fox-fall-tv-2014-predictions.jpgFOX's fall schedule will open up considerably in the coming season: With "The X Factor" gone, the network has three extra hours of primetime to fill.

That's a good thing, because FOX has a whole lot of new shows in line for the 2014-15 season. With its commitment to year-round scheduling, the network has already picked up nine new shows for next season, including several "limited series" (i.e., short-run dramas that tell one story but could also return if they're successful enough).

To us at Zap2it, it makes sense to deploy a couple of those limited series in the now-vacant "X Factor" spots in the fall. "American Idol" will still have a sizable footprint starting in early 2015, so putting the likes of "Gracepoint" and "Wayward Pines" on Wednesday and Thursday nights -- along with the already hyped "Gotham" on Wednesday nights -- in the fall. It saves a lot of schedule juggling later on, and it's a chance to focus a lot of promotion on the two nights, as -- at least in our version -- a lot of the rest of the schedule remains fairly stable.

Mondays and Tuesdays remain pretty much intact, with some new comedies rotating in and out of the schedule. With "American Dad" leaving FOX and no new animated series in the pipeline, Sunday features the return of live-action comedy, including the just-expanded "Mulaney" and ... "Dads." Signs have started to point to a second season for the critically reviled show, and it might fit better with the Sunday shows than with the batch of single-camera shows on Tuesdays.

Lastly, we suspect "Red Band Society" -- a dramedy that doesn't seem like an easy fit tone-wise with any of FOX's other dramas -- and the adventure series "Hieroglyph" to be held for the summer of 2015.

FOX officially announces its 2014-15 schedule on Monday (May 12). Here's our proposal (all times Eastern/Pacific, new shows in italics).
