FOX plans fan-elected American Country Awards for December

Just when you were thinking there aren't enough televised award shows in your life, FOX comes to the rescue with the announcement of another country music kudofest.

The Hollywood Reporter says the network is readying the American Country Awards, not to be confused with the Academy of Country Music Awards, the Country Music Association Awards or the Country Music Television Awards.

A two-hour ceremony, broadcast live on the East Coast, is planned for Las Vegas on December 6. And to separate itself from the host of other country awards, ACA plans to let fans vote for the winners.

Now, we're up for any excuse to indulge in a little Carrie Underwood or Taylor Swift, but is this anywhere in the vicinity of a good idea? Award shows have been lucky for their recent boon in viewership and it seems like FOX is looking a gift horse in the mouth -- a nice country lyric, come to think of it.
