FOX wants 'Glee's' Jane Lynch to host the Emmys

FOX is airing the awards this, year, and the "Glee" star and likely repeat nominee is the network's top choice to serve as host, Deadline reports. The successful hosting turns by Neil Patrick Harris and Jimmy Fallon in the past two years has FOX hoping Lynch can re-create some of the comedy-and-music magic those guys brought to the show.

Ryan Seacrest hosted the Emmys the last time they aired on FOX, in 2007. He was also part of the quintet of reality hosts who presided over the 2008 awards on ABC, an experiment that didn't play especially well with audiences.

The TV academy's board of governors is scheduled to meet Wednesday (May 25) and could give the thumbs-up to Lynch as host then. She would be the first solo female host of the Emmys since Ellen DeGeneres in 2005.

Mark Burnett is producing the Emmy telecast this year, the first under the TV academy's new eight-year deal with the big four broadcast networks.
