Francis Lawrence offered 'Hunger Games' sequel 'Catching Fire' directing gig - report

francis-lawrence-hunger-games.jpgThere has been a large question looming for "Hunger Games" fans since it was announced that Gary Ross has stepped down as the director for "Catching Fire," the second movie of the popular YA trilogy.

Now the Hollywood Reporter is saying Francis Lawrence has been officially offered the job, so if he accepts and a deal is reached, he will be the captain for the next installment. The job was reportedly between Lawrence and "Moneyball" director Bennett Miller.

Lawrence's previous credits include "Constantine," "I Am Legend" and Water for Elephants." He was generally considered the frontrunner for the "Catching Fire" gig because of his availability. The release date has been set as Nov. 22, 2013 and the film needs to be finished shooting by the end of 2012 because the sequel to "X-Men: First Class" has an option on "Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence for 2013.

What do you think, "Hunger Games" fans?
