Fred Armisen is Seth Meyers' 'Late Night' bandleader
Meyers' former "Saturday Night Live" co-star Fred Armisen will be the leader of The 8G Band, named for the studio where "Late Night with Seth Meyers" will tape. Meyers tweeted a picture of the band Monday (Feb. 10):
The 8G Band features, from left, guitarist Seth Jabour, drummer Kimberly Thompson, keyboardist Eli Janney and bass player Syd Butler. Jabour and Butler are members of the band Les Savy Fav, which had Armisen as a drummer for several tracks on the band's album "Let's Stay Friends." Janney is a member of Girls Against Boys, and Thompson has worked with Beyonce, jazz great Wallace Roney and others.
Armisen will "lead and curate" the band, Meyers writes in a separate tweet, and will work with the show even when he's filming "Portlandia" for IFC. Having him around the "Late Night" set every day will probably also open up a number of comedy possibilities, especially since Meyers previously said he'd like to incorporate recurring characters into his show a la "Weekend Update."
"Late Night with Seth Meyers" premieres Monday, Feb. 24 on NBC, with another "SNL" alum, Amy Poehler, as the first guest.
