Freddie Mercury and Princess Diana walk into a bar ... no, really, according to a new book
That's what a new book is claiming. According to British TV personality Cleo Rocos (via the New York Daily News), "The Power of Positive Drinking" has within its pages an anecdote about when the Queen frontman took the people's princess to the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, a popular gay club in the 1980s.
According to Rocos, himself, Mercury and friend Kenny Everett smuggled the princess into the club in disguise -- she was wearing a bulky army jacket with dark sunglasses and a cap.
"We felt she was so obviously Princess Diana, she would be discovered at any minute ... It was fabulously outrageous and so bizarrely exciting. Our hearts pounded with every new leather-clad hairy body that approached, but no one, absolutely no one, recognized Diana," writes Rocos.
He also writes that Diana ordered a wine and a beer, and "once the transaction was completed, we looked at one another, united in our triumphant quest. We did it!"
Do you think it's true? Since Rocos is the only surviving member of the foursome, there's no one to corroborate the story. But we'd like to think Princess Di would've loved to have a beer with Freddie Mercury.
