ABC's new midseason comedy "Fresh Off the Boat" is offering a new spin on the classic American dream family sitcom. As the above trailer for this new series reveals, "Fresh Off the Boat" is based on the young life of celebrity chef Eddie Huang.

From Nahnatchka Kahn, Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar, "Fresh Off the Boat" is a '90s-set comedy about a Taiwanese-American family trying to live the American dream while running an All-American Steakhouse restaurant in suburban Orlando.

The humor in the trailer is prickly and on-point, which is a good sign for the new series. Constance Wu is hilarious as Eddie's mother Jessica, and it's from her that the trailer gets its biggest laughs. Only time will tell whether the show hits well with audiences, but for now we're optimistic.
