Friday Box Office: 'Fast Five' leads the pack with $34M

fast-five.jpgBox office lesson we learned this weekend? The "Fast and Furious" franchise is pretty much impossible to beat.

The fifth film in the franchise "Fast Five" dominated the box office on Friday, Apr. 29, bringing in almost $34 million. The action flick starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker is on track to earn $80 million this weekend. The film was made from $125 million.

The weekend's other new release, Disney's "Prom," didn't have quite as much luck -- the rom-com brought in only $1.8 million and should make $8 million over the course of the weekend. On the bright side, "Prom" only cost $10 million to make.

Last weekend's box office champ "Rio" earned $3.2 million and should pass the $100 million mark this weekend. "Madea's Big Happy Family" brought in $3.1 million and "Water For Elephants" made $2.7 million. "Hoodwinked Too!" only brought in $1.1 million.
