Friday Box Office: 'Tower Heist' may not take top spot

tower-heist-eddie-murphy-be.jpgExperts predicted that the Ben Stiller/Eddy Murphy robbery caper "Tower Heist" was a solid bet for the No. 1 position at the box office this weekend, but Friday estimates suggest that may not be the case.

Though it was expected to make up to $35 million in its first weekend, the film grossed $8 million on Friday night, putting it on track for something closer to a $25 million opening.

Meanwhile, "Puss in Boots" is looking poised to take the top spot -- it took in a $7.8 million haul on Friday, but the family fare will likely see a greater boost than "Tower Heist," as it's matinee-friendly. Estimates set "Puss in Boots" up for a $28 million weekend, which will give it the No. 1 slot above "Tower Heist."

Meanwhile, set to take the No. 3 spot is the raunchy stoner holiday film, "Harold & Kumar's 3D Christmas" after raking in $5.4 mil on Friday night.
