EW is reporting that Irish actor Liam Cunningham will play fan favorite Ser Davos Seaworth when the HBO hit series returns for its second season in 2012. Cunningham recently starred in Starz's now-canceled "Camelot," the "Clash of the Titans" remake and "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor."

Nicknamed "The Onion Knight," Davos is a family man who Stannis Baratheon enlists to help him seize the Iron Throne from King Joffrey ( Jack Gleeson) after his brother Robert Baratheon's ( Mark Addy) death. Davos earned his nickname after successfully getting food into Stannis' castle during the War of the Usurper. Though he lost four fingers due to his criminal past, Stannis gave Davos a knighthood for his actions.

Earlier today it was announced  that British actor Stephen Dillane will take on the role of Stannis while Dutch actress Carice van Houten will play Melisandre, Stannis' mysterious counselor and a women with prophetic powers.
