'Game of Thrones' moves to Iceland, Croatia for Season 2 filming

game-of-thrones-wall.jpg "Game of Thrones" will expand its world in Season 2 by expanding the number of locations where it films.

HBO announced Monday (Aug. 22) that the series, whose primary location is Belfast, Northern Ireland, will also film scenes in Croatia and Iceland this season. (Portions of the first season were also shot in Malta.)

Sites in Croatia will serve as Southern locations in Season 2. Iceland, unsurprisingly, will be the home to scenes set in the uncharted land beyond the Wall in the north of Westeros.

Season 2 of "Game of Thrones," which has also added a host of new cast members, has been filming for about a month. It's scheduled to premiere in early 2012.
