'Game of Thrones' Season 3 DVD will go behind the Red Wedding
"Game of Thrones" Season 3 Blu-ray and DVD details are coming out months early to act as a big tease for the show's home video release. USA Today has a first look at the DVD set, which will hit store shelves on Feb. 18.
There will be many special features on the set, but the one being focused on in this early tease is a Blu-ray exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Red Wedding. One of the Blu-ray's bonus features is called "'The Rains of Castamere' Unveiled," and will take "an in-depth look at the episode that altered the course of the series."
In the above spoiler-free clip, episode director David Nutter explains how he set up the seminal episode. Part of it was having the Starks be on a lower level than Walder Frey, and another was having the wedding celebrations start off really light and up beat.
"When doing a sequence like this, you really want to hit the highs high because you know how far and down it will become," he acknowledges.
Other special features on the DVD include a 14-minute recap of Season 2 called "A Gathering Storm," an examination of marriage in "Game of Thrones" called "The Politics of Marriage," an "Inside the Wildlings" featurette, a featurette spotlighting new characters, 12 audio commentaries, and five deleted and extended scenes.
Additional features available only on the Blu-ray are "'The Rains of Castamaere' Unveiled," "The Roots of Westeros" guide and a "Histories & Lore" featurette about Westeros' mythology.
"Game of Thrones" Season 4 will premiere on HBO in Spring 2014. Here's a look at the Season 3 DVD cover:
