"Game of Thrones"
Season 4, episode 9 "The Watchers on the Wall" are contained in this article.
Though "The Watchers on the Wall" was a heartbreaking episode in more ways than one, it also contained one of the most bromantic scenes in all of "Game of Thrones" history. Thinking he might die in the Battle of Castle Black, Samwell Tarly asks Jon Snow to tell him, a virgin, what it was like having sex with Ygritte.
"As soon as Sam hears about Ygritte -- because Sam does have this kind of almost adolescent, boyish kind of fascination with sex that comes from his kind of complete distance from it -- I think he's instantly fascinated with if Jon and Ygritte had sex," actor John Bradley tells
about the scene."If you have a friend who seems to be just rocketing ahead of you in terms of development, there's that kind of innocent puppyish kind of curiosity about everything about it."
Sam and Jon have been equals in Season 4 in a lot of ways, but Bradley says that this is the one part of Sam's education that Jon has over him.
"There is as equal a relationship between Sam and Jon as it's ever been, but there's still a lot that Sam wants to learn from Jon about being kind of worldly wise," Bradley says. "Sam is very, very keen on books and sciences and kind of an intellectual side, but I think he lacks kind of a worldly knowledge and he wants to Jon to impart some of that information."
With the fate of Gilly still unknown, Sam doesn't know that he might have the chance to put all that sex talk knowledge to good use -- if he wants to break his vows to the Night's Watch, of course.
"Game of Thrones'" Season 4 finale airs Sunday, June 15 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
