Hafbor Julius Bjornsson might not have been an actor before joining "Game of Thrones" as Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane, but he is more than qualified for the role. The 25-year-old landed the role after he placed second at the "World's Strongest Man" competition in 2013.

Why was his strength so important? Viewers found out in the most horrifying way possible on June 1. At 6'9" and 421 pounds, Bjornsson believably could *spoiler!* pop Oberyn Martell's head like a watermelon, as was seen in Season 4, episode 8, "The Mountain and the Viper."

Don't believe it's actually possible? In honor of Throwback Thursday, watch the above video of Bjornsson deadlifting 994 pounds at the 2014 Arnold Strongman Classic. Then rewatch the horror of the Red Viper's death below, knowing Bjornsson could actually probably do that to a human.

"Game of Thrones" airs Sundays on HBO at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
