George R.R. Martin has a cameo in 'Game of Thrones' Season 3
George R.R. Martin didn't spend all his time working behind the scenes during Season 3 of "Game of Thrones." It turns out he also was in front of the camera as well, and will have a not-yet-disclosed cameo appearance in the upcoming 10 episodes.
"You will see him," co-showrunner David Benioff told Deadline. It was revealed at the Los Angeles "Evening with 'Game of Thrones'" that Martin already had cameoed in the original "Game of Thrones" pilot, but since "90 percent of the pilot was re-shot," his appearance "ended up on the cutting room floor."
This isn't the first time Martin has had a small appearance in an "A Song of Ice and Fire"-inspired property: He also has a cameo in the "Game of Thrones" video game released in 2012. In it, the "Game of Thrones" author appears as Maester Martin. It would be fun for him to make a similar appearance in Season 3.
Zap2it spoke with Martin on the "Game of Thrones" Season 3 premiere red carpet and asked him about the episode he wrote this season, "The Bear and the Maiden Fair." "There was some cool stuff in that episode. There were a number of characters that I didn't get to write about last year because remember last year I did 'Blackwater,' which was a very focused episode," he said. "I wanted to write an episode that had some cool stuff for all of [the characters] in it and it worked out pretty well."
"Game of Thrones" returns to HBO on March 31 at 9 p.m. ET.
