The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Media Awards honor TV, film, music and personalities for representing the LGBT community and the issues they face in their lives in a fair and accurate way. The first awards ceremony was conducted in 1989 and now, 25 years later, they're stronger than ever.
The 25th annual GLAAD Media Awards presented awards to winners in 13 of 29 announced categories, including "American Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez, who was given the Vanguard Award. The award is presented to people in the entertainment industry who promote equal rights for the LGBT community.
