GLAAD Media Awards: 'Orange Is the New Black,' 'Elementary' and more honorees -- video

The 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards were announced in New York on Saturday (May 3). Among those honored were TV shows "Orange Is the New Black," "Elementary" and "Oprah's Next Chapter."

Former "Star Trek" star George Takei received the Vito Russo Award.



The Netflix series, "Orange Is the New Black" won the award for Outstanding Comedy Series. Much of the ensemble cast -- Laverne Cox, Laura Prepon, Natasha Lyonne, Samira Wiley, Dascha Polanco, Selenis Leyva, Yael Stone, Taryn Manning, Emma Myles and Alysia Reiner -- accepted the award on behalf of the show.

Outstanding Individual Episode went to "Elementary" for the "Snow Angels" episode.  Candis Cayne, who played Ms. Hudson in the episode, accepted the award for an LGBT storyline in a show without a regular LGBT character.

"Oprah's Next Chapter" won the award for Outstanding Talk Show Episode for "First Openly Gay NBA Player Jason Collins and His Family." Other honorees included the films "Philomena" and "Concussion."

Other entertainment of the evening included performances by Kacey Musgraves and Kylie Minogue.
