It's hard to believe there are people out there who hate Ellen DeGeneres, considering she seems to be the most inoffensive, friendly, likable person on Earth, but occasionally we're reminded that there are people in this world who hate things like laughter, puppies, baby sloths and DeGeneres (all of these bring us a similar level of happiness).
An organization called OneMillionMoms.com, a project of the American Family Association (which has been deemed a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center), is calling for department store J.C. Penney to fire DeGeneres as its spokeswoman because of her sexuality.
GLAAD isn't having any of that -- they've launched a campaign called Stand Up for Ellen so DeGeneres' supporters can tell J.C. Penney what a good choice the company has made in hiring the TV host and comedian.
"While designated hate groups try to start 'culture wars,' it's clear that a vast majority of Americans today support Ellen as well as their LGBT friends and family members," says GLAAD Senior Programs and Communications Director Herndon Graddick in a statement. "Selecting an out performer who has inspired and entertained millions is not only a smart business practice but a reflection of how LGBT Americans today are an integral and valued part of the fabric of our culture."
