'Glee': Carol Burnett, Furt and bullying

glee-carol-burnett-jane-lynch-320.jpgAs usual, "Glee" packs in quite a bit into an episode and yet is still able to make us cry a little. Well done, "Glee."

In Tuesday's (Nov. 23) episode "Furt," we get two weddings, two vows and a very disappointed glee club. Let's break it down by plot, shall we?

Doris, Nazi Hunter, visits Sue

We're not crazy about the Sue ( Jane Lynch) "marrying herself" story. It's pretty hokey. But there's still some great stuff the resulted from it, and first and foremost it's bringing Carol Burnett. to town as Sue's notorious Nazi-hunting mom Doris. Their duet of "Ohio" -- with the banter in the middle -- is just a joy to watch, and we realize exactly why Sue is as acerbic as she is. (Vote in Zap2it's poll for the best song from "Furt.")

Other bonuses: Sue's tracksuit wedding dress is horror-dorable, and as usual Sue has such a way with words when she describes on her dating profile what she's passionate about: "Extreme taxidermy, tantric yelling, poking the elderly with hidden pins."

Kurt's bullying and acceptance

Well, everything came to a head, and finally people are noticing and standing up for Kurt ( Chris Colfer) against Karofsky ( Max Adler). First of all, it's sad, but it doesn't surprise us at all that the school board really did nothing about Karofsky's behavior. Kurt leaving for the Dalton Academy was a foregone conclusion. New Directions won't be the same, but hey, at least we get more Blaine ( Darren Criss).

glee-karofsky-burt.jpgAlso, it was nice to see New Directions, headed by Rachel ( Lea Michele) of course, mobilize the others to take on Karofsky. It's about time. Wow, was Finn ( Cory Monteith) really getting called out though or what? We kind of get it, that he should be leading, but Finn's always been a little slow on the uptake, so that's nothing new. He totally made up for it though with that great best man speech, becoming Furt and singing "Just the Way You Are." Yes, we got all verklempt.

Oh, and we have a feeling that Karofsky's story isn't finished. His dad certainly brings up his general change in behavior. We really like the line, after his dad asks why Kurt could possibly make up such a story, "Maybe he likes me." Oh, Karofsky. You wish.

Burt and Carole's wedding

We can't go on enough about how awesome the dancing was for "Marry You" and how were so touched by those speeches. It was just such a beautiful wedding. Wish we were there.

Sam gets Quinn's promise

We really like Sam (Chord Overstreet) but aren't thrilled with the underlying ambition that's driving him to do certain things. Does he truly want to be with Quinn ( Dianna Agron) or is he using her? We totally saw that self-satisfied smirk when Mike Chang (Harry Shum) called him the epitome of a leader. Anyway, Quinn is wearing Sam's promise ring now. We like his proposal though, promising to tell her if she has food in her teeth or move something "super heavy."

A few other musings and highlights:

  • Kurt: "I've been planning weddings since I was 2. My Power Rangers got married and divorced in so many combinations they were like Fleetwood Mac."
  • Doris: "I think it's perfectly alright for a woman to be handsome."
  • Eva Braun's great-nephew is named Chad? Snirk.
  • Burt to Finn: "What the hell have you been doing while this has all been going on, huh?"
  • glee-cory-monteith-furt-320.jpgAww moment for Finn about Rachel: "Because I"m in love with her and don't want to hurt her feelings." She's going to find out though. Man up and tell her first.
  • Santana to Finn: "Sit down, Frankenteen." Fun fact: "Frankenteen" is Cory Monteith Twitter handle.
  • Notice that Mr. Schue was not in the wedding or performing with New Directions. His role seemed much more appropriate this episode.
  • A mother's gift to warm your soul: The illustrated copy of "Mein Kampf."
  • Officiant Sue: "By the power invested in me by a website ..."

Wait, did we hear Florence + the Machine's "Dog Days Are Over" in next week's episode preview? Awesome.
