'Glee's' Jane Lynch: Season 3 about what's next for the kidsAdd to Favorites | Glee
She also admits that the guest star-heavy, tribute episode-studded second season was a bit of a roller coaster.
"We had a great season last year, but we did kind of go all over the place with guest stars," Lynch said during a conference call about her job as host of the Emmys ( more on that here). "[We] had a lot of fun with that. [This season] we're kind of honing in on the stories of these kids, especially in light of the fact that several of them will be graduating at the end of the year."
The world after high school will weigh on seniors Rachel ( Lea Michele), Finn ( Cory Monteith) and Kurt ( Chris Colfer), Lynch says, and that will motivate them as much as getting back to nationals with New Directions.
"We're seeing where they go with their intimate relationships and with graduation looming ahead," she says. "It's not just about working for ... sectionals, regionals, nationals. It's kind of about what these kids are going to be doing with their lives. So it's pretty interesting, but a lot of fun.
Lynch also says she "hasn't seen any evidence" as to whether one of "The Glee Project's" winners will become Sue's nemesis, as reported earlier this summer. There's still plenty of time for that, though, as she says the show has only shot three episodes so far.
Season 3 of "Glee" premieres Tuesday, Sept. 20 on FOX.
