'Golden Girls' marathon on WE celebrates Rue McClanahan
McClanahan, who died Thursday (June 3) at age 76, was a four-time Emmy nominee for playing the brash and brassy Blanche Devereaux on the series and won the award for best actress in a comedy in 1987.
WE's marathon kicks off at 5 p.m. ET and will run until 1 a.m. As of this posting, a full list of episodes wasn't available, but if the channel decides to keep a previously scheduled "Golden Girls" block starting at 5, it will lead off with "Blanche and the Younger Man," an episode from 1985 that features Blanche dating her aerobics instructor.
McClanahan's death leaves Betty White -- who called her "Golden Girls" co-star a "close and dear friend" -- as the only surviving member of the show's core cast. The show and its cast, which also included Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty, were most recently honored with the Pop Culture Award at the 2008 TV Land Awards.
