In every small village around the world, beautiful women in native garb are effortlessly elegant.
Then there are those for whom beauty is anything but simple. They are the results of team glam: stylists, makeup and hair professionals.
And no one does glam better than Hollywood. It's officially glamour's high season as the first of the awards shows kicks off with the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards Sunday, Jan. 13, on NBC, with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association votes on its favorites in 25 categories divided between movies and television. As always, the Globes have one distinctive aspect -- the Miss or Mr. Golden Globes, an unabashedly nepotistic role.
It's bestowed upon someone whose parent is in show business. This year it is Francesca Eastwood, daughter of Clint Eastwood and Frances Fisher.
"My mom called me to tell me," Eastwood tells Zap2it. "It is such an honor and so exciting and such a cool way to be part of Hollywood history. There was not a doubt in my mind I would do it."
"I am going to wear an old-fashioned dress, vintagey looking," Eastwood says. "I am obsessed with Veronica Lake hair."
Eastwood was planning to wear a Pronovias gown in white.
"It could be from the '20s, from the '40s," she says. "It is very classic. I am not sure about the hair yet. I will wait to see the dress and consult with hair, makeup and the stylist."
Realizing she is on stage for the entire event, Eastwood says, "I know I need to wear comfortable shoes."
"I walk the people who get the awards on and off the stage," she says. "That is my only job. My job is show up and look good."
Over the years, Donna Douglas (1963), Linda Evans (1964), Melanie Griffith (1975) and Laura Dern (1982) have had the honor. Eight years ago, another Eastwood daughter, Kathryn, was Miss Golden Globes.
Last year's Miss Golden Globes was Rainey Qualley, daughter of Andie MacDowell and Paul Qualley. She wore a strapless teal gown with a jacquard print and a mermaid hem.
In 2011, Gia Mantegna, Joe Mantegna's daughter, dazzled in a strapless white shimmery gown with a black sash. Before the ceremony, she told Zap2it, "My personal style is very edgy and not Golden Globes friendly. I am always trying to not wear black. I wear black all the time, every day, and it's always a struggle to get me to wear color. I am definitely wearing something not black."
Mavis Spencer, Alfre Woodard's daughter, was Miss Golden Globes in 2010, and she wore a coral gown accented with bows at the shoulders and two on the ruched bodice.
In 2009, Rumer Willis - Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's daughter - wore a strapless fuchsia gown, with a fitted bodice and a sweeping skirt, accented with a dark bejeweled belt.
