Golden Globes makes room for more animated feature nominees

More is always a good thing, at least when you're talking about awards.  That's the case for the animated feature film category for the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Nov. 17 that there will be five feature animated film nominees up for future awards, rather than the three from each year since the category was launched in 2006.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, an HFPA representative said the group didn't know yet how many films would be submitted this year, but it will be more than 12.

The HFPA's decision follows last week's word from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which said that since 20 pics have been submitted for the best feature film Oscar, as many as five may be nominated. While the Academy created its animated feature category in 2001, it has only had enough submissions to trigger five nominees once before.

The 67th annual Golden Globes will be broadcast live on NBC on Jan. 17, hosted by Ricky Gervais.
