gossip-girl-dec-5-chuck-blair-cw.jpg" Gossip Girl" has been on such a roll recently. There's the Charlie/Ivy story. There's the Chuck and Blair story. Heck, even Lonely Boy had his own thing going on with that book. So that makes it all the more disappointing when we say the show laid an egg with its fall finale on Monday (Dec. 5).

[Spoiler Alert]

There was a bit of intrigue. Blair ( Leighton Meester) gets cold feet about her impeding nuptials with Louis. And, in what can only be a complete break from her normal character, Blair has a moment of honesty with herself. This leads her to call Chuck ( Ed Westwick) and lay her cards out on the table.

"Do you think you could love another man's child?" she asks her one-time boyfriend. While at first he declines, he ultimately has a change of heart. But will it be too late?

Charlie/Ivy ( Kaylee DeFer ) is set to be introduced into New York's high society. But it won't be easy as her ex-boyfriend/extorionist Max won't give up his evil plans without a fight. This first leads him to Nate's ( Chace Crawford) desk at the NY Spectator. Nate isn't buying what Max is selling. But C/I's ex ultimately finds a kindred spirit in Trip van der Bilt ( Aaron Tveit).

The two story lines, aided by Dan's ( Penn Badgley) best impersonation of Rick from "Casablanca," collide during a Princess Diana/Dodi Fayed-inspired paparazzi chase through Central Park. And we all know what's going to happen next.

"Gossip Girl" has had an impressive run through the first half of the 2011-12 season. It's a shame that it marked the mid-way point with such a dud.

Uh oh. Uh oh.
