'Gotham' gets series order at FOX for 2014-15 season
The network on Monday (May 5) picked up the show, starring Ben McKenzie ("Southland," "The O.C.") as a young, not-yet-Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon, to series. It was something of a foregone conclusion, as FOX made a series commitment to the show early in the development process and would have paid a hefty fee if it hadn't been picked up.
The series also stars Donal Logue as Gordon's partner, Harvey Bullock, and Jada Pinkett-Smith as gangster Fish Mooney. Among Mooney's underlings is Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), who will become the Batman villain The Penguin. "Gotham" also features David Mazouz ("Touch") as a pre-teen Bruce Wayne, who develops a bond with Gordon.
Bruno Heller ("The Mentalist") wrote the "Gotham" pilot and will executive produce with director Danny Cannon ("CSI," "Nikita") and John Stephens ("The O.C.").
FOX also has given series orders to "Backstrom," starring Rainn Wilson, and "Hieroglyph," set in ancient Egypt. Limited series "Gracepoint" and "Wayward Pines" are also on tap for next season, along with drama returnees "Bones" and "Sleepy Hollow" and several comedies.
