Grammys 2013 Best Dressed: Carrie Underwood, Beyonce, Taylor Swift and more shine on the red carpet
Black is the new black
There were some absolutely stunning black dresses on the red carpet this year. Carly Rae Jepsen and Carrie Underwood both wore dramatic, form-fitting dresses with enough texture and sparkle to make everyone look twice. "NCIS" star Pauley Perrette also sparkled in black -- but her dress sported an unusual short skirt. In a sea of long gowns, it's nice when someone stands out.
And then there was Kelly Rowland. Somehow, her cut-out black dress managed to look beautiful, show a lot and meet the Grammys tight dress code.
Dare to be different
Not everybody went with black, and that's a good thing. Taylor Swift was one of the biggest stars to show up in white. The silver T-bar across Swift's chest was a bit odd, but the toga-style gown suited her youth and style.
Nicole Kidman showed up with husband Keith Urban in a gold-hued brocade dress that made the beautiful woman even more stunning. Shaun Robinson, meanwhile, was stunning in a light purple gown.
In some cases, an unusual dress matched an unusual personality. Take Esperanza Spalding -- her dress defied simple description and completely matched her style.
No one may have shocked more than Beyonce. The mega-star arrived in a pants-suit with a half-black and half-white top. She looked pretty amazing in it.
Don't forget about the men
Tuxedos don't have as much variety as dresses, but some of the men did manage to stand out on the red carpet. The show's host, LL Cool J, showed up in a white tuxedo spruced up with a black newsboy cap.
For a more casual look, Tim McGraw represented the country singers well with his fancy black shirt and black cowboy hat.
