'Grey's Anatomy' death: A beloved character will die in the season finale
She says that the quote gave her the courage to kill off one of the most beloved "Grey's" characters in the season finale.
"A lot of our writers were crying, which is a very rare thing," Rhimes tells TV Guide of the May 17 finale. "There's some really shocking, horrible moments." She even stresses that the tragedy to befall Seattle Grace is worse than the Season 6 finale, when a gunman opened fire in the hospital.
Rhimes, who keeps in touch with fans regularly via Twitter, is gearing up for some major backlash. "I've been sitting with my head in my hands for days. I understand the choice I made, but it scares me how fans are going to react," she says.
Uh-oh. We'll see the beginning of the sad story in the May 10 episode, which sees the doctors forced to leave the hospital for a case that turns deadly. The fall-out will happen in the finale the following week.
Of course, there are some good things to come at the end of the season. Though Rhimes isn't at liberty to discuss whether Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo will return to the show next season, she does promise that we'll see their beautiful dream house and, contrary to her original plan, it won't burn down. She also hints that Mark and Lexie will have "beautiful moments" together, and things with Ben and Bailey also get incredibly romantic.
Oddly, she refused to comment on Callie and Arizona's storylines moving forward. Uh-oh.
