It's been known for a long time that
was losing three faces by the end of Season 10. Original cast member Sandra Oh along with
newcomers Tessa Ferrer and Gaius Charles
would all be departing the ABC medical drama by the time this season concludes on Thursday (May 15). While Oh's absence
was finally explained last week
-- she's moving to Zurich
to take over Dr. Burke's research hospital
, which has the funds to continue her 3D printing of hearts and the potential to actually win a Harper Avery award -- residents Leah and Shane's fates were still a mystery.
That is, until Thursday (May 8) night's episode, "Everything I Do, Nothing Seems to Turn Out Right," when one of the two residents was dealt a harsh blow. All week long, all the residents, including Jo and Stephanie, were freaking out over who was going to get fired ever since they overheard Owen and Webber talking about a resident who wouldn't be a surgeon.
When Webber sat Leah down after operating next to her earlier that day, he told it to her straight: She's a bright, talented doctor, but she's not a surgeon. She doesn't have the skills to continue on in the program, and letting her finish her residency wouldn't be fair to her or the hospital or the patients. Webber already lined up a job for her at a research facility, and with that, Leah is no longer a resident at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
But what about Shane? He's still got one more episode left this season to explain why he won't be roaming the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial next season. Will he also get the boot for professional reasons like Leah, or will he choose to leave for personal/professional reasons like Cristina, or will his exit be more dramatic and heartbreaking, like George or Denny's? We'll find out next week.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 10 finale airs Thursday (May 15) at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
