"Grey's Anatomy" just nabbed itself an Oscar winner for Season 11. Geena Davis will appear on the show as a recurring character.

Davis will play a surgeon at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. The role marks her first major TV role since she starred as President Mackenzie Allen on ABC's "Commander in Chief," which ended in 2006 after one season.

The casting follows the departure of Sandra Oh at the end of Season 10 and the news that Caterina Scorsone has been upped to series regular, while Kate Burton would return in the season premiere. "Grey's Anatomy" Season 11 debuts Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
