Vin Diesel is out and about promoting his new movie, "Riddick," giving him the perfect platform to talk about all that Marvel teasing he's been doing. Vin says that while it wasn't the point of the his meetings initially, he's in talks to voice Groot in "Guardians of the Galaxy."
Vin says he first met with Marvel in regards to a new property that could potentially launch the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016 or 2017. However, after teasing working with Marvel at Comic-Con, he realized that waiting until 2016 might just be too long. "I guess after they watched 'Iron Giant', or whatever, they came up with this idea of taking the strangest Marvel character -- or the strangest Marvel character that's ever hit film," he tells THR, "and thought what I could do with that with motion capture and with my voice."
In the meantime, Diesel says "it's just up to my reps to allow that to happen." Groot was shown briefly during the "Guardians of the Galaxy" teaser shown at Comic-Con, though his voice wasn't heard. Now, it's just a matter of time to find out if Diesel will utter the character's trademark "I am Groot."
"Guardians of the Galaxy is currently filming for an August 1, 2014 release. Now, if only Vin would say which movie he was talking to them about before "Guardians" came up. It was initially thought he was being considered for "Ant-Man."
