It seems reports of "Game of Thrones" star Jason Momoa taking on the part of Drax the Destroyer in Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" were premature. THR is reporting that a deal for the part has been closed, and the actor stepping into the role isn't someone known for acting at all. Dave Bautista, a former WWE World Champion and mixed martial artist, will play Drax in the upcoming movie.
Bautista left WWE in 2010 to try his hand at mixed martial arts fighting, as well as to pursue acting jobs. His roles so far have been mostly in direct-to-video movies, but with September's "Rick," in which he has a supporting role, he's to be taking a step forward.
Bautista joins Chris Pratt, who is already cast in the lead role of Star-Lord, "Guardians of the Galaxy," which will be directed by James Gunn, is expected to fit in the same universe as the other current Marvel franchises, and will include ties to "The Avengers." Filming is expected to begin this summer, with a release date scheduled in August 2014.
