Happy birthday William Shakespeare -- we think

william-shakespeare.jpgApril 23 is William Shakespeare's 448th birthday. Maybe. The Bard was baptized on April 26, 1564, and traditionally babies had this done three days after birth. There is no official record of his birth, but considering it's also the day he died, it seems appropriate.

William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-Upon-Avon to Mary Arden and John Shakespeare and died at the age of 52. Not only did he give us a huge library of plays and sonnets, but he invented words and phrases that most people don't even know come from him.

Here are just a few of the sayings that come from Shakespeare. "Fight fire with fire," "fair play" and "foul play," "in a pickle," "love is blind," "star-crossed lovers," "the game is up," "too much of a good thing," "woe is me," "good riddance," "the beast with two backs," "green-eyed monster." The list goes on.

So take some time today to eat "a dish fit for the gods" and curl up with some Shakespeare. You can then consider yourself "exceedingly well read."
