'Harry Potter' shatters midnight box office records with $43.5 million
The movie took in $43.5 million in ticket sales at Friday's first midnight screenings and, according to The Wrap, sold out many theaters across the country.
"Deathly Hallows Part 2" smashed the previous record set in 2009 by "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse."
Based on the first numbers, the movie could be on track to become the highest grossing domestic opener of all time. "The Dark Knight" set the current record in 2008 with a $158.4 million opening weekend.
