After Sacha Baron Cohen dropped out of the biopic about former Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, names started being floated about who could replace him. One of the more interesting choices was "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe. Him taking on the role of Mercury would definitely be a huge change from the things he's known for.
Unfortunately, the world will never get to see what that portrayal looks like, as Radcliffe says the rumor is simply just people talking. "There is no truth to it at all. It's one of those very, very funny things," he tells Empire Online. Radcliffe says the story began in a tabloid and just sort of spread. "It grows and grows [until] it's 'Dan Radcliffe is playing Freddie Mercury,' which I was never going to do," he explains.
Furthermore, Daniel says his being cast in the movie would be a mistake, adding, "I am completely wrong for that part." He says the rumor isn't unlike what happened to his "Potter" co-star Emma Watson during the "Fifty Shades of Grey" casting process."When somebody has column inches to fill, they just sub in one of our names," he says.
In the meantime, there's still no one to play Freddie.
