'Haven' EP Sam Ernst: 'We actually know the last scene of the series'
Zap2it caught up with the stars of "Haven," Emily Rose (Agent Parker) and Lucas Bryant (Haven resident Nathan Wuornos) to chat about the newest kooky show from Syfy.
When asked about her character's hang-ups, Emily says, "I think the major blind spot for my character happens initially in the first episode with this confrontation -- she kind of comes to grip with a connection to her family and her roots. As those start unfolding in the story, they'll start tripping Audrey out ... She knows how to operate and how do do her world and her day-to-day, but the emotional, she'd rather not. That's her sort of blind side."
So how does she interact with Bryant's character, Nathan? "Nathan has a condition where he can't feel pain that alienates him from people," Bryant tells us. "But when Audrey blows into town, she kind of blows his world open. So we'll see if he's able to overcome those emotional deficiencies."
As for the structure of the show, executive producer Sam Ernst assures us that there will be a stand-alone aspect to each episode but also an over-arching sci-fi mythology. "We have two elements to the show. One is we are going to meet in each episode a supernaturally afflicted person like we did in the pilot ... However, there is mythology to the show and with [executive producer Jim Dunn] and I being sci-fi, supernatural geeks, we know the last scene of the series so we know where we're going. We're going to tell the story of Audrey and Nathan and the town of Haven and where it's going."
"In the larger scheme of things, it will be revealed why there are so many people with supernatural afflictions here," adds EP Jim Dunn. "The idea was that this is a place where theoretically for long periods of time these people can be without having their afflictions but now we're in a time when they kick up again, just when Audrey Parker happens to come to town."
"Haven" premieres Friday, July 9 at 10 p.m. ET on Syfy -- right after the season premiere of "Eureka," which is welcoming James Callis to the cast.
