HBO orders 'The Brink' starring Jack Black and Tim Robbins to series
The pay cabler has given the comedy project starring Jack Black and Tim Robbins, from executive producer Jerry Weintraub, a series order, Deadline reports.
Written by former "Weeds" executive producer Roberto Benabib and his brother Kim Benabib, "The Brink" is billed as an "epic dark comedy" that centers on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three men: U.S. Secretary of State Walter Hollander (Robbins); Alex Coppins (Black), a low-ranking Foreign Service officer; and Zeke Callahan ( Pablo Schreiber, "Orange Is the New Black"), a star Navy fighter pilot. The three men must find their way through the chaos that surrounds them to try and avoid World War III.
With a pilot directed by Jay Roach, "The Brink" also co-stars Aasif Mandvi, Maribeth Monroe, Geoff Pierson and Esai Morales.
The pilot was completed quickly and was only shown to the powers that be at HBO on Monday, earning an immediate series order. "They don't know how long I'm going to live, that's why they picked it up so quickly," Weintraub jokes with Deadline.
