james-gandolfini-gi.jpgFollowing the tragic passing of James Gandolfini at just 51 on Wednesday (June 19), a tribute of sorts has been planned by the network that was his home for six seasons.

Starting with Wednesday night's 10 p.m. episode of "The Sopranos" on HBO Signature, the premium cable network will air the following message in telecasts: "HBO mourns the loss of James Gandolfini, a beloved member of the HBO family."

Beyond the added-on message, the network has no current plans for a marathon or any sort of special scheduling.

Gandolfini will forever be synonymous with the role of Tony Soprano, a role that earned the actor three Primetime Emmys. "The Sopranos" was pivotal in shaping HBO as a premiere destination for quality television and ushered in a wave of male antiheroes seen in shows like "The Shield," "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad."
