HBO's 'Westworld' books Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood

anthony-hopkins-evan-rachel-wood-westworld.jpgHBO continues its ability to draw big-name movie actors to jump to television with landing Anthony Hopkins for its pilot "Westworld," which is loosely based on Michael Crichton's 1973 sci-fi movie of the same name.

Hopkins will play Dr. Robert Ford, the brilliant creative director and chairman of the board of Westworld, a futuristic amusement park that is populated by androids so lifelike that it's hard to tell them apart from the humans. Dr. Ford has an "uncompromising creative vision" for Westworld and will stop at nothing to achieve it.

Evan Rachel Wood joins Hopkins in the pilot as Dolores Abernathy, a farm girl of the frontier who is about to find out her entire life is a well-produced lie. James Marsden is also in talks for the pilot.

The exact plot and similarity to the Yul Brynner-starring movie is not yet known, but in the film, the park is made up of three areas -- Westworld, Medieval World and Roman World. Presumably the frontier land for which the series is named is where Wood's character Abernathy discovers the truth about her "reality."
