"Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is getting a new star in August. Andrew Rannells ( "Girls," "The New Normal") will replace Neil Patrick Harris ( "How I Met Your Mother") in the lead role as of Aug. 20.

While the musical was originally scheduled to close in August, positive reviews and multiple Tony Awards have changed the plans, Entertainment Weekly reports. But Harris remains set to leave his Tony-winning lead role on Aug. 17, meaning a new leading man needs to step into Hedwig's high-heeled shoes.

Rannells, who will also play the role of Hedwig for a limited run, is no newcomer to Broadway. He has a Tony nomination for "The Book of Mormon" and has already played Hedwig in a regional production of "The Angry Inch."

"Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is a rock musical about a transgendered singer from East Berlin and her backup band, Tits of Clay. The cast's performance at the 2014 Tony Awards (see the video below) was one of the night's highlights.
