'Hellcats': Jeff Hephner replaces Ben Browder as new football coach

hellcats-jeff-hephner-getty.jpg "Hellcats," the new cheerleading drama produced by "Smallville" star Tom Welling has just added Jeff Hephner to its team, reports Fancast.

Hephner, who many may remember from "The O.C." as Sandy Cohen's colleague whose friendship with Marissa Cooper bordered on inappropriate, will play Red Raymond.

Red is a Lancer University alumni who returns to his alma mater to give the football team a much-needed boost. He won't only cause a stir on the field, though.

As Zap2it first reported, Red will jump into a love triangle with D.B Woodside's Dr. Derrick Altman, the cheerleaders' physician, and his girlfriend, cheerleading coach Vanessa ( Sharon Leal). Derrick and Vanessa have been in a stable relationship for a while, but her history with Red may cause a crack in the foundation.

In the "Hellcats" pilot, the role was played by Ben Browder ("Stargate SG-1"), but when Browder dropped out the role was re-tooled significantly.
