'Hitchcock' star Anthony Hopkins calls 'Psycho' shower scene 'the most frightening thing I've ever seen'
One of the most iconic moments in cinema history is the shower scene murder in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 thriller "Psycho." Anthony Hopkins, the star of the upcoming biopic "Hitchcock," remembers the moment he first saw the film's clever twist on classic Hollywood films when it killed off its leading lady halfway through the movie in that scene.
"I saw it in a movie theater in September 1960 on a dark Sunday afternoon in Manchester," Hopkins tells MTV News. "The scene in the shower was the most frightening thing I've ever seen. And the whole audience was under the seat, myself included, because we didn't know what to expect."
Fans will get to see the story behind how and why Hitchcock and his wife Alma decided to shoot that scene in "Hitchcock." It's due in theaters on Nov. 23, but for now just satisfy yourself with watching Scarlett Johansson's take on Janet Leigh's iconic scream.
