Hollywood Walk of Fame stabbing suspects plead not guilty

hollywood-walk-of-fame-stabbing.jpgTuesday evening (June 18), Christine Calderon was involved in an altercation with three transients near the corner of Hollywood and Highland in the Los Angeles area. After taking a cell phone picture of the men, they demanded she give them a dollar for the picture and a scuffle broke out.

Two of the men allegedly held Calderon's companion back while Calderon was stabbed in the torso by the third man, Dustin Kinnear. Calderon later died at Cedars-Sinai hospital.

Kinnear was charged with murder Thursday, reports CBS Los Angeles. One of the other men, Jason Wolstone, was charged with assault by means likely to produce bodily injury and two counts of accessory after the fact, and Brian Widdows, was charged with two counts of accessory after the fact. They all entered pleas of not guilty.

The LAPD says that all three suspects have prior records. Kinnear's mother tells CBS that her son is severely mentally ill.

"It's been a matter of when this would happen to be honest with you. I just couldn't get him the help he needed," says Kinnear's mother. "I'm not justifying what my son did. He needs to pay for it."

Judge Shelly Torrealba set bail for Kinnear at over $1 million and $500,000 for each of Wolstone and Widdows. All three must appear in court June 3, when a date will be set for a hearing to determine if they will go to trial.
