'Homeland' producers take drama pilot 'Tyrant' to FXAdd to Favorites | Homeland
The project from Gideon Raff, who created the Israeli series "Homeland" is based on, and Howard Gordon is called "Tyrant." It centers on an American family who gets sucked into the halls of power of a Middle Eastern country after its dictator dies.
"The brilliant and wholly original concept just blew us all away," says Nick Grad, FX's head of original programming. "It's pretty amazing when you read a script and can instantly imagine it becoming one of the best shows on television. We're grateful to the producers for choosing to bring it to FX."
Raff wrote that pilot script and will executive produce with Gordon and Craig Wright ("Underemployed," "Dirty Sexy Money"). Wright will be the showrunner if "Tyrant" is picked up to series.
FX outbid a couple other cable networks to win the rights to "Tyrant," meaning they'll finally get a chance to work with Gordon and Raff. The channel passed on "Homeland" a couple years ago, enabling it to land at Showtime and score a best drama series Emmy earlier this year.
