Hot Cuppa TV's July 4th Declaration of Principles (Plus Bob Beckel getting dunked!)
Today's cuppa: The sweet taste of liberty (drink while you still can!)
Back when I began this blog in June of 2008, there was a lot of talk about journalists being in the tank for one political candidate or another, and here we are, four years later, still arguing the same points.
Whatever biases are present at HCTV, they're mine alone, and I embrace them. My specific politics -- whom I'm voting for, etc. -- are my business, and yours, are yours. But this blog is unashamedly in the tank for three groups of people, as I stated in an entry back on July 23, 2008.
- We're in the tank for everyone who brings us great TV shows, and that goes from the executive perched at the top of the corporate food chain all the way down to the guy who sweeps the studio floor.
- We're in the tank for the TV audience, the ultimate arbiters of what succeeds and what doesn't. No matter how hard No. 1 works, if No. 2 doesn't tune in, the show does not go on (Unless it's "The Wire," a criminally under-watched HBO drama that floated for five seasons almost entirely buoyed up by critical hot air.).
- We're in the tank for the men and women of America's armed forces, at home and abroad, past, present and future. Without their courage and dedication, No. 1 wouldn't have the freedom to produce great TV shows, and No. 2 wouldn't be able to sit safely in the living room and watch them.
So for all the "Deadliest Catch," "RedEye w/Greg Gutfeld," "Ice Road Truckers," "Sons of Anarchy," "Southland," "This Old House" "Wipeout" and "Dancing With the Stars" fans out there -- and everyone else who likes what I do (which means you're a genius, of course) -- we salute you.
And we'll continue to be in the tank for you -- just like Bob Beckel of FNC's "The Five."
(UPDATE: While it looks as if a toupee -- with toupee tape -- flips up over Beckel's head in this video, he claims it was the tape holding his suspenders down. We post the video -- you decide.)
Happy Fourth of July!
